Are the results worth it or will i just gain the weight back later?

Atkins is mostly meat. I think your best bet is to eat a balanced diet and watch your portion sizes. Also, excercise. You can probably lose the 5-10 lbs you want to in a couple weeks doing this.
The Atkins Diet is an amazing weight loss diet plan that helps you lose weight without counting calories. You can lose as much as 10 to 30 pounds in the first month on atkins diet meal plan of meat, fish, eggs, cheese, good carbs and good fats!
The Atkins Diet Plan weight loss program works on the principle of severely restricting carbohydrates intake in your daily atkins diet meal plan. As your food cravings melt away with the atkins diet meal plan, you will feel energize both mentally and physically.
Eat plenty of cold water fish and other foods containing Omega-3 fatty acids (but if pregnant be aware of FDA guidelines about fish consumption).
Olive oil, especially those labeled virgin or extra-virgin, should be emphasized.
For stir-frying, canola, peanut, and grapeseed oil are recommended, especially if “cold-pressed” or “expeller-pressed”.
Avoid corn, soy, safflower, and sunflower oil except in small amounts, and not heated (these have high amounts of Omega-6 polyunsaturated fat). Again, cold-pressed or expeller-pressed oils are recommended. [Note from Laura: sunflower and safflower oils are now available made from seeds bred to have high levels of monounsaturated fat, and low levels of polyunsaturated Omega-6 fats. These are usually labeled "high oleic".]
When choosing mayonnaise, choose regular full-fat mayonnaise, preferably using the guidelines above for types of oils used.
When choosing salad dressings, the same rules apply, and watch for added sugars.
Butter and other sources of saturated fat (e.g. coconut) are acceptable, but not to be overconsumed.
Don’t use margarine unless it is trans-fat free.
Water is the vastly preferred beverage. Atkins advises 8 8 oz glasses per day. If you are hungry and it isn’t a mealtime, try drinking water first - you might just be thirsty. Soda water or carbonated water with sugar-free flavorings are OK.
Do not drink any beverage with sugar in it, including juice and cider. Herbal teas, or decaffeinated coffee or tea are good choices, although some people can get away with drinking caffeine (you have to experiment to see if it triggers cravings or slows weight loss). Diet sodas sweetened with sucralose (Splenda) are acceptable. Clear broths are usually very low in carbs (but, as always, read labels).
It sounds like you are looking for a temporary fix, which is something you definitely don’t want to do with the atkins diet. Most people gain at least 5 to 10 pounds when they get off the diet. In my case, I gained a lot more than that…and I truly felt deprived. If you like fruit and anything sweet…or good bread, potato’s (and pretty much all starches)…I think you might crave them double time while on the diet (I sure did). I just don’t think we are designed to give up carbs. Yeah it works, but it’s because you are starving your body of the sugars it needs…so it goes into this mode called Ketosis, where it burns fat to convert it into sugar. Your brain is starving…and there is a good week or two of discomfort and light headedness. I felt like I couldn’t think straight because I couldn’t think straight. My brain was starving for sugar. Ketosis is a survival mode your body goes into should you be in a time of famine. It’s not meant to be a lifestyle.
(Oh, and I was not a big sugar person before I started the Atkins diet…but afterward, I became a sugar addict. I became glucose intolerant as a result. I also have a friend who’s dad became diabetic after he quit the diet. I can’t say for certain it’s related, but his family sure thinks so).
I would recommend weight watchers if you are trying to lose a little bit of weight. They will help you by counting points and they will show you how to keep the weight off. Best plan out there…and it’s a lifestyle change - not a fad diet.
I dont think the Atkins is worthwhile. i tried it and i know some guys who have tried it. its crap. its a temporary fix and as soon as u stop the diet u gain the weight back. whats healthy about cutting out fruits and veggies? while on the atkins all u eat is high fat crap like eggs and meat and peanuts, limited veggies and NO fruit or bread. its stupid. u get killer headaches as well and feel weak all day.
a diet with no junk food, wheat bread food only, some dairy, some meat, and plenty of fruits and veggies is a much better idea. and of course, exericise!

If you enjoy protein foods and rich foods, then you’ll do great on Atkins. It does work, but it takes some effort in the beginning. There are really endless possibilities of food combinations. You just have to be careful with the carbs. That’s tough initially, but after the first phase(usually 14 days) you’ll be fine. You’ll have lost a significant amount of weight and be feeling motivated to continue on. I found that once i was eating more fats in my diet like butter , mayo, etc , I did not crave the bread as much. Plus I enjoyed lots of nuts which I love. For more info on Atkins check out :\
