The Lap-Band weight loss surgery is a new surgical procedure that is growing rapidly in the Bariatric field of medicine. This non-invasive procedure allows for ones food intake to lessen, leaving you feeling full and satisfied, which will also result in the loss of redundant weight. This will leave you with a healthier lifestyle you can live with.

The first couple of weeks after the procedure, eating solid foods are prohibited. You will be required to follow a diet that helps you get on track with your new life style. After you have the procedure you will be required to have a liquid diet for the first week, after which you will move to food that has been pureed, you will be able to work yourself up to eating soft foods and then later on to normal foods once again. It may take longer for some patients to get back to eating normal foods, because the healing process can vary.

Once you are able to eat regular foods you will be advised that not all routine foods are acceptable and may cause issues for the Lap-Band patients. The foods that this applies to are; certain breads, dried fruits, nuts (including coconuts), popcorn, fried foods, pasta, and much more. Because you now will be eating less than you did before you had the gastric bypass surgery, you need to be careful to watch what you eat so that you lose, not gain, weight.

It will be necessary for you to change the way in which you eat, expect to be asked to eat slower, taking the time to chew and swallow your food while savoring its taste as you go. This takes at least a half hour for you to finish your meal, by doing so you are listening for your bodies signal that lets you know when enough is enough. Once the feeling of fullness has arrived you must stop eating immediately, otherwise if you choose to continue eating, the consequences can cause discomfort and will ultimately result in the gaining of weight.

Beginning a new healthy eating habit is the best and easiest way to begin your life after you have had the surgery. Choosing to eat a nutritious diet filled with foods rich in vitamins and minerals helps enable your body to eliminate toxins and cleanse itself, allowing you to feel better mentally and physically.

To improve your health and get slender, talk with a dietitian about good eating habits, and avoid foods that are high in fat and empty calories. Also, during your meals drinking liquids is prohibited, you will be advised to drink liquids only between meals and a half hour after every meal, this will help keep your digestive tract moving.

Expect routine check ups with your Doctor. This is important and let the doctors evaluate your progress and also let them provide answers to any questions or issues you might have.
