Does self hypnosis for weight loss really work? The truth is, this is an area receiving more and more attention lately, as people seem to think that hypnosis is the key to their life’s problems.
Why hypnosis doesn’t work
The basic premise behind self hypnosis is that you are put into an altered state where your subconscious mind is supposedly more receptive to positive beliefs. Sounds good in premise, but in the real world it really doesn’t fly.
The thing about self hypnosis for weight loss is that it goes in assuming that there is some mental reason you can’t drop those pounds. Usually, however, this isn’t the case-it’s merely poor habits.
You aren’t overweight because you think about being overweight, or because you think you can’t lose weight-you are overweight because of poor eating and exercise habits. Moreover, if you’ve failed in the past to drop some pounds, the answer still doesn’t lie in your beliefs-it was just poor technique, in all likelihood.
The REAL reason people fail
The reason most people fail to lose weight is that they don’t have specific goals and reasons for wanting to lose weight, and also because they jump into it too quickly. Many people attempt to start losing weight by getting rid of all their favorite foods overnight, and embarking on some huge, torturous workout program.
To make it worse, they start both programs at the same time, further reducing their chances of success. It’s been shown that to effectively change a habit, you need to only focus on one thing at a time, and do it gradually. For instance, instead of trying to change your diet and workout habits at the same time, start with one or the other, and make the changes gradually.
If you attempt to change your diet and workout patterns more slowly, you will be almost guaranteed to succeed.
For example, if you’re goal is to become a vegan (which I strongly recommend, by the way) you might cut out a quarter of your meat intake this week, a quarter the next week, and so on. This is a much more likely way to help you succeed, as opposed to changing negative mental beliefs that really aren’t there in the first place.
To sum it up, hypnosis is just another example of the get rich quick philosophy. This is because many people just want to come in, have their mind altered, and basically lose weight without trying. Losing weight will take dedication, regardless of which methods you use, and hypnosis just doesn’t address the issues.
There is no mental reason that you aren’t losing weight; its’ simply bad technique. Self hypnosis for weight loss should be avoided.
All too many people, in my opinion, spend their time doing things to change their beliefs, when the real issue isn’t their thought process, it’s either poor technique or not taking action at all. Self hypnosis for weight loss is really just an easy way out, and there is no reason to waste time or money with it.
