I took some Green Tea caffeine-free diet pills and they really seem to work — or is it just a placebo effect?

Miranda asks:

I got these relatively cheap caffeine-free Green Tea diet pills from K-Mart and they really seem to work. I haven’t eaten in 19 hours and am not hungry.

The past couple of days with the pills, I also only find myself eating half as much. This hasn’t affected my energy levels when I exercise.

Do they really work or is it just a placebo effect?
OK. It’s been 21.5 hours since my last meal. I could lose 15 pounds or so, so I’m sure my body will burn fat as opposed to muscle first.

If it works, does it matter?

  2. Katerina:

Be careful with those because you can crash hard and gain all the weight back
generally those are supposed to make you poop
but you need to eat not eating for 19 hours is not healthy and if you stop drinking the tea you can gain the weight back

  3. Ella:

Probably not a good thing that you haven’t eaten in 19 hours.

  4. Sybil:

The “research” on these type of green tea extract diet pills claims to suggest evidence of specific, “key” antioxidants that help to increase metabolic rates. Supposedly, these also suppress the release of a chemical known as noradrenaline, which is an appetite-stimulating hormone in the body. They also claim it helps with thermogenesis, which occurs when the body “burns” fat to use as heat energy for the muscles during workouts. If it’s working for you, perhaps the “research” is not all false claims..

PS- It’s not at all healthy to go 19 hours without eating. Even if you’re not hungry, you should be eating at least 3-6 small meals per day. In fact, skipping meals will have a very negative effect toward weight loss. When you skip meals, your body thinks it is starving, and begins to feed on muscle to stay alive. Eat.
